The Orkney Islands Council (Variable 20 mph Speed Limit and 30 mph Speed Limit Extension) (Finstown) Order 2023

Orkney Islands Council proposes to introduce a traffic order which will create a variable twenty miles per hour speed limit and also extend the existing thirty miles per hour speed limit on sections of the following roads in Finstown:

Variable Twenty Miles Per Hour Limit.

  • A965 east from its junction with A966 to the war memorial.
  • A965 west from its junction with A966 to 5m west of the Grandon Road junction.
  • A966 from its junction with A965 to the property named Govilon.

Extension to Existing Thirty Miles Per Hour Limit.

  • C1, Old Finstown Road, Finstown from the current thirty miles per hour speed limit at the northwestmost corner of the property named Avallon to a point five metres southeast of the entrance to the property named Lindean.
  • A965, Finstown from the current thirty miles per hour speed limit, forty six metres southeast of the southeastmost corner of the property named The Boathouse to a point five metres east of the property named Marsdene.
  • A966, Finstown from the current thirty miles per hour speed limit, nine metres northeast of the telephone exchange to five metres northeast of the access to the property named Heddon.

The proposed Order, where its provisions conflict, supersedes: The Orkney Islands Council (Variable 20 mph Speed Limit) (Schools in Evie and Firth) Order 2007 which came into operation on the First day of April Two Thousand and Seven.

Details of the proposals are contained in the draft Order which, together with copies of the relative maps, a statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing to make the Order and the Order specified above may be inspected online at www.orkney.gov.uk and at the locations below during the following times:

  1. Customer Services, Council Offices, Kirkwall, Orkney KW15 1NY:

Monday to Tuesday 09.00 to 17.00, Wednesday 10.00 to 17.00 and Thursday to Friday 09.00 to 17.00

  1. Warehouse Buildings, 2-12 Victoria Street, Stromness, Orkney KW16 3AA:

Monday 09.15 to 17.45, Tuesday to Wednesday 09.15 to 16.45, Thursday 09.15 to 17.45, Friday 09.15 to 16.45 and Saturday 11.00 to 15.45

  1. Finstown Post Office, Finstown KW17 2EL:

Thursday, Friday and Saturdays between the hours of 09.30 and 12.30

  1. Firth Community Centre, Old Finstown Road, Finstown:

The documents and plans will be displayed in the Finstown hall for the period of the public consultation, however the specific times that they can be viewed will be:

Wednesday 30 August 2023, 14.00 to 16.00 and Thursday 7 September 2023, 18.00 to 20.00.

Objections to the proposals, specifying the grounds on which they are made, should be sent in writing to the Director of Neighbourhood Services and Infrastructure, Orkney Islands Council, Council Offices, Kirkwall, Orkney KW15 1NY or by email to NSI@orkney.gov.uk not later than 5pm on Friday 22 September 2023.
