Improvement Support

Like other local authorities, Orkney Islands Council anticipates having significantly reduced funding with which to provide services in future. As a result, the Council is proactively seeking new and innovative ways to do things differently in future that will bring tangible benefits for the organisation.

A small, dedicated team was established in 2014 to run the Council’s Change Programme, supporting the Senior Management Team to help all services plan for the future by working with them to design and deliver the efficient and quality services they want for the future. A key task is to assess ideas from within and outwith the organisation for improvements, efficiencies and innovation. The Council is committed to ensuring that the best of these are put into practice.

A range of Change Programme projects is currently underway. These include a comprehensive assessment of how best to provide IT systems in future, an initiative to increase the recycling of household waste, and improvements to the Council website to help people access services more efficiently.
