How Orkney Islands Council is preparing for emergencies
In Orkney: In an emergency or 'major incident', the focus of Orkney Islands Council's role is on providing direct support to the local emergency services and to the most vulnerable members of the community as identified by Orkney Health and Care. In preparation for major events, the Council has a Major Emergency Plan, working with their partner agencies through the local Orkney Local Emergency Co-ordinating Group - training events, exercises and meetings are held throughout the year within the Council and with their multiagency partners. In the Highlands and Islands: Orkney makes up part of the Highlands and Islands Local Resilience Partnership (HILRP), the overarching group that ensures good partner and agency working in the region.
In Scotland: Through the HILRP, Orkney Islands Council contributes to wider efforts to ensure good emergency preparedness plans are in place across Scotland.
Preparing for Emergencies Guide
The Council has worked with the Highlands and Islands Local Resilience Partnership (HILRP) to produce 'Preparing for Emergencies in the Highlands and Islands', a guide which provides basic information about what Government does and is doing to protect the population, and what you can do to protect yourself and your family in the event of a major incident.

The Community Risk Register
The Community Risk Register has been prepared by the North of Scotland Regional Resilience Partnership. It includes the risks that have the highest likelihood and potential to have significant impact, causing disruption to our community and our neighbours within the North of Scotland.
