As we get underway in the new year, our planning for supporting the Orkney Island Games continues

Prior to the Christmas break a staff survey was launched on ‘Improving Meetings’.  So far nearly 100 of you have responded to the survey.  It closes this Friday (12 January) and we are keen to get more responses!

Please find confirmation of the Council Public Holidays dates for 2024/25 and a reminder for everyone to plan to ensure annual leave is taken by end of leave year and where necessary arrangements for approval of exceptional carry forward.

With the onset of winter over the last couple of months, weather conditions have presented us with some significant challenges in providing our services – including travel cancellations, the closure of the Churchill Barriers or slippy road conditions.

Over the past few months, employees, customers, and communities have been nominating colleagues across the three categories below. Our VIP Selection Panel have been reviewing these nominations and have selected the following finalists for each category in this round

Meetings are an important tool for us across the Council. We have however had a lot of feedback saying there are too many meetings and they are not always as effective as they could be. We are therefore looking at how we can improve meetings for all of us. The focus is on officer meetings as Committee Meetings have their own governance and protocols.
