Orkney Health and Care is proud to welcome another registered social worker to the team. Esther Stephen has successfully completed her Continuous Professional Learning - a registration requirement that newly qualified social workers have to evidence with the Scottish Social Service Council at the end of their first year post-qualification.
Esther says the management support she’s received has been vital to reaching her goal of becoming fully registered:
“I’ve really enjoy the supervision sessions with my manager, and mentoring sessions with my mentor. I feel I’m always able to look forward to those sessions as they create an opportunity for me to ask questions, learn and gain knowledge to help in my professional practice. Managers in the team have ensured that I have appropriate learning and training including linking me up to a mentor.
Esther says her work – and her workmates – inspire her: “I love my colleagues and their individual uniqueness that gives me daily inspiration. I like the amazing people I meet from different agencies; healthcare, education, other public sector, and voluntary organizations, through being a social worker. We’re all working to make lives better – it’s a working environment that gives me a sense of belonging and real purpose.
“One of my professional values is the dignity and worth of all people - we value humanity, and like to promote social justice and support children and families in the community.
“My aim is to improve outcomes in people’s lives by making sure that vulnerable people are safeguarded from harm, or by helping people to live more independently with the support they need.
“I look forward to more opportunities for me to receive training and professional development so that I can continue to support people in the Orkney community.”
