SJC 2023/24 Pay Award (employees on the Grade A – M Pay Structure)

Date: 10 November 2023

We have had confirmation from COSLA of the implementation of the 2023/24 Pay Award. It is complex and aspects of the offer are still subject to the ongoing Trade Union ballot for acceptance (Unison only). This briefing is intended to help employees understand the position and what happens next.

What does the pay award mean for me?

Grades A and B - An increase of £1.04 per hour in your hourly rate of pay, with the Council minimum rate of hourly pay increasing to £11.89 per hour (excluding Distant Islands Allowance).

Grades C to N - Either an increase of £1.00 per hour or a 5.5% increase on your hourly rate of pay, whichever is greatest.

When will this be paid?

The new rates of pay and the backdated payment to 1 April 2023 will come through in your December salary, paid on Friday 15 December 2023.

Will I see a further increase in January 2024?

Grade A – E, the full increase has already been agreed to be implemented from April 2023, so there is no further part-year increase.

Grade F and above, subject to the current Unison ballot of members, you will see a further increase in your hourly rate effective from 1 January 2024.

To help explain further, the attached table shows the hourly rates of pay for 1 April 2022 (current), 1 April 2023 (implemented in December 2023) and 1 January 2024 (paid in January 2024).

If you have any further queries, please contact your Service HR Adviser and we will do our best to help explain.

Many thanks
