How are the closures managed and enforced?
Following a decision to close the barriers, either a Police Scotland or Council vehicle will be used to block the carriageway at either end of the closure to prevent vehicles from crossing. Advanced warning signs – “Barriers Closed” – are erected on the approaches to the barriers. Our colleagues from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency may, subject to their availability and other responsibilities, provide assistance with closing the barriers at the St Margaret’s Hope end.
