How do you tell people that the barriers are being closed?

Notifications are issued to partner agencies and other stakeholders as the reviews are scheduled and decisions made.  OIC then issues public messaging advising disruptions are likely at the Barriers over the next 24 hours through our usual communication channels.  – through X (formerly known as Twitter), Telegram and Facebook. The alerts also appear on the Council homepage www.orkney.gov.uk . The local press is also informed as soon as practicable.  We update the public at each stage after that early alert, noting whether we are reviewing conditions, if so what time and whether or not the barriers are open.  We also put advanced warning signage at Highland Park (Kirkwall), St. Marys, St. Margaret’s Hope and Burray.
