Kirkwall THI Property Grants
What Grant Funding is Available for my Property?
Grant funding through KTHI has been available in stages, the first, second and third stages or rounds are now complete and the projects allocated funding are now being progressed. This means that all KTHI property funds are currently committed, but some current projects may not progress so please still feel free to contact us if you have an enquiry or plans for a property.
Previously grant funding has been available for external improvements using traditional construction methods and natural materials for residential and commercial buildings within the Kirkwall Conservation Area. To qualify grants had to be in the Kirkwall conservation area.
The funding available has been focused on:
- Property owners that bring vacant space within the Kirkwall conservation area back into use.
- Grants for property owners for building repairs or restoration of architectural detail within.
- Grants for shop owners who want to restore/repair their shop fronts in a style appropriate to the period of the building.
The grant covered the cost of hiring an agent to undertake designs, specifications, secure statutory consents, gather building quotes/tenders and onsite project management.
The Kirkwall THI offered grant funding towards the eligible costs of a building project only. Grant recipients and their agents are responsible for direct project management, quality of work, builder and neighbour liaison etc.
