Regional Marine Plan for the Orkney Islands - Statement of Public Participation
The ‘Statement of Public Participation’ guidance document was published by OIC in 2021, and updated in June 2024 following the Scottish Ministers approval of the Orkney Islands Regional Marine Plan: Consultation Draft. This report outlines the indicative timescales and how OIC Marine Planning has engaged local communities in the development of the Orkney Islands Regional Marine Plan (OIRMP).
OIC also undertook additional pre-consultation island visits in Spring/Summer 2022, which highlighted the value of marine planning and the welcome extent of local knowledge to ensure a marine plan that is fit for purpose.
Following Scottish Minister’s approval to begin consultation on the OIRMP- Consultation Draft in June 2024, the formal consultation began on August 1st 2024 and will run for 12 weeks, closing on 25th October 2024.
