Disabled Access
Under new Disability Legislation, people and organisations running services and businesses might have to make a "reasonable adjustment" to buildings to make them easily accessible by disabled people. Our Building Standards team can offer a wealth of advice. We can also discuss the availability of Home Improvement Grants for disabled people.
The changes in May 2007 to the Building Standards Scotland Regulations 2004 introduced changes to access within Dwellings. Minimum space requirements and accessibility issues have been addressed and details can be found in Sections 3.11, 3.12 and also in Section 4 of the Technical Handbooks.
Further Information
The Inclusive Design Handbook recently produced by the Association of Building Standards Managers provides a better understanding of the inclusive design requirements of the Building Regulations. An electronic version of the Inclusive Design Handbook can be accessed at the Inclusive Design Handbook website, available via the 'Related Sites' section on this page.
