Care at Home Services

Care at homes services describe the provision of care within an individual’s own home. This is generally done as scheduled visits however help can be called for via the Community Care Alarm. All care staff require professional registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and as part of this registration obtain a specified qualification in Health and Social Care (role dependent).

Care at Home Service

Provides care for those who wish to remain in their own home living as safely and independently as possible. The care and support provided is principally personal in nature such as assisting with washing and dressing/undressing, continence management, support with eating, mobility and administration of medicines.

There can also be some domestic support involved in caring for individuals which may include preparing meals and washing up, cleaning and tidying of kitchen and bathroom areas.

The service promotes a re-ablement ethos to promote individual’s independence and supports around 200 people in Orkney 365 days of the year.

Mobile Community Responder Service

The team provide routine and emergency responder service for people in their own homes throughout mainland Orkney who have activated their care alarms, or whose alerts have been set in motion by Telecare sensors. The service operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year and is available where there is no key holder, or where the responder service is the preferred option of the service user.

The team also install Telecare equipment and ensure it is in good working order by conducting check visits to service users. During these visits they ensure the service user’s details are up-to-date and accurate and assess for further equipment should there be a need identified.
