What Support Is There?

"We like fostering because we have been able to give a child a good chance in life."

We'll Support You Support Them

Fostering offers a unique opportunity to care for and make a real difference to the life of a vulnerable child.

Being a foster carer can be immensely rewarding and satisfying. It can also be physically and emotionally demanding, but we’ll support you all the way.

When you become a foster carer you will be allocated your own social worker who will draw up an individual support plan with you and who will provide dedicated support to you while you are looking after a child.

Financially, every foster carer receives an allowance for each child they look after depending on the age of the child. All additional expenses are also met to ensure that foster carers are not out of pocket for caring.

Orkney has its own fostering and adoption support group, which meets regularly and provides foster carers with the chance to meet, support and get advice from others who have experienced the same challenges and emotions.

And last but not least, our small and friendly fostering and adoption team pride themselves on being approachable and will be there for you whenever you need practical or emotional support.
