Dr Kareen Marwick
Born in Orkney, Kareen’s love for rowing began on Swanney Loch when she used to row during the summer months. When Kareen went to University she got involved in the university rowing club. This is where her career in rowing took off and propelled her onto the world stage. She is the only Orcadian woman to have represented Great Britain on the rowing stage.
Kareen’s achievements span a number of years and continents:
- 1982 Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race – Cambridge team, 1982 winners.
- 1983 Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race – Cambridge team, 1983 winners.
- 1983 World Rowing Championships, Duisburg, Germany in Women’s Eight.
- 1989 World Rowing Championships, Bled, Slovenia in Women’s Quadruple Sculls.
- 1990 World Rowing Championships, Tasmania, Australia in Women’s Coxless Fours.
- 1991 World Rowing Championships, Vienna, Austria in Women’s Eights.
- 1992 Olympic Games, Barcelona, Spain in Women’s Eights.
- 1994 Commonwealth Games, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada in Women’s Eights.
- 1995 World Rowing Championships, Tampere, Finland in Women’s Eights.
