VACMA: Donna Eunson
Date: 5th February 2024
Time: 15:00
My VACMA bursary gave me the opportunity to take part in a personalised one-to-one online mentorship programme and online masterclasses with professional glass artists. The online mentorship programme consisted of monthly videocall zoom sessions, where we covered many different topics and techniques, expanding my technical ability and building my confidence. The masterclasses covered using glass powders and advanced firing techniques to create large gravity drop vessels.
I have broadened my understanding of kiln programming for more complex fi rings, gained tricks of the trade and invaluable advice expanding my technical ability in more advanced techniques. Discovering alternative sales routes and exploring outlets that cater for a broader range of economic demographics as part of creating a sustainable business. Gained confidence in my ability to create gallery standard work. I am in the process of creating a new body of work through knowledge gained through my mentor and new techniques learned on the online masterclasses.
Having the assistance of this award has given me the opportunity to develop and expand my knowledge and technical ability in kiln formed glass processes; and has been extremely inspiring in my personal and creative development.
Through my one-to-one mentorship programme, I will be entering work into a contemporary glass exhibition in Bristol during April 2024, which will be my first opportunity to have work on show out with Orkney.
