Door-to-Door Metal Dealers
Metal dealers who buy and sell on a door-to-door basis must hold an Itinerant Metal Dealer's Licence issued by a Scottish Local Authority under section 32 of the Civic Government Scotland Act 1982. This licence is valid throughout Scotland.
The application form, Guidance Notes and standard conditions are available from the 'Related Downloads' section of this page.
HMRC Tax Checks
From 2 October 2023 in Scotland, applicants for itinerant metal dealers' licences need to complete tax checks with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
New applicants require to confirm that they are aware of their tax responsibilities.
Applicants for renewal require to provide a valid Tax Check Code as part of their application. If this is not provided, the Council cannot process the application.
Information about the requirements is shown in the HMRC Tax Check Factsheet, the Guidance Notes and the application form, published in the Related Downloads section of this page.
