Boating and Watercraft

Orkney Islands Council no longer operates a licensing scheme for persons wishing to be in charge of a pleasure boat or vessel for the purpose of letting it out for hire to members of the public or to be used for carrying passengers for hire.

Such a scheme was previously operated under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982.

However, persons operating pleasure boats or vessels will have to comply with rules of the Maritime and Coastguard agency as well as any applicable bylaws. Please see the Marine Services web page available from the 'Related Links' section of this page for further details.
