Homework / Study
We work closely with our colleagues at Kirkwall Grammar School and from our feeder schools in the islands to promote a strong ethos of study and educational achievement.
To that end the entire buildings have been built with education uppermost in our minds.
IT provision is at the forefront of study with bedrooms designed as study rooms with inbuilt desks and all are hardwired for computers. Wi-Fi is freely available on the entire ground floor including our garden and we provide laptops for study and research purposes.
Auskerry is our library/homework room which is equipped with an interactive data whiteboard, suite of computers, books and is fully accessible to wheelchair users as are the entire buildings.
Homework classes for all students in first, second and third years are mandatory and further information on classes is available on application.
Students logging onto Papdale Halls’ computers can do so in the knowledge that they are protected by Orkney Islands Councils secure IT systems. When logging on students are directed to Kirkwall Grammar School’s server and so they are able to access their schoolwork.
Our home cinema is fully IT integrated and is used for power point presentations and educational films.
Switha is our quiet room where students can relax and contemplate; it is equipped with a small but comprehensive range of books.
Homework diaries are issued to all students and they have been designed to allow for comments and feedback from care staff and parents.
