Rent Payment
Your rent notice tells you how much rent to pay, and when to pay it.
- Rents for Council Housing is payable weekly for 48 weeks of each year.
- Rents for homelessness accommodation is payable for 52 weeks of each year.
- Rents for Garages are payable monthly.
How You Can Pay Council Rent
Bank Standing Order
If you would like to pay your rent direct from you bank account. Payments can be made monthly, fortnightly or weekly - monthly payments being the preferred option. Although not yet available, it is hoped that Direct Debits can be offered soon and we will keep you informed when this is possible.
Online
Pay online using your debit or credit card. Please visit our online payments web page, available through the 'Related Links' section of this web page.
By Telephone
You can pay by debit or credit card by telephoning the Council on 01856873535 extension 2905 or 2115 (Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00).
Payments in Person
Visit the Council Offices, Kirkwall, KW15 1NY (Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00) or the Council’s Customer Services Office, Warehouse Buildings, 2-12 Victoria Street, Stromness, KW16 3AA (Mondays 09:00 to 19:00 and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 09:15 to 17:00 and Saturdays 10:45 to 16:00).
Internet Banking
You can pay via your own bank. You need to provide the following information.
- Bank: Royal Bank of Scotland, 1 Victoria Street, Kirkwall, KW15 1DP.
- Name of Account: OIC Rent Collection.
- Sort Code: 83-24-07.
- Account Number: 00233800.
- Please quote your Rent Payment Reference number.
By Post
Make cheques payable to Orkney Islands Council and send to Orkney Islands Council, Council Offices, Kirkwall, Orkney, KW15 1NY. Please write your rent reference number on the reverse of the cheque. Please do not send cash in the post.
Deduction from your wage or salary
This is only available to Council staff.
