Council Tax Enquiries and Payments
You may have a query on your Council Tax bill or wish to ask someone for more information regarding payments, arrears, discounts or exemptions etc.

You can also visit or write to the Revenues Section, Corporate Services, Orkney Islands Council, Council Offices, Kirkwall, Orkney, KW15 1NY. Office opening hours are Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm
How to Pay Your Council Tax
Council Tax is normally paid in 10 monthly instalments from April to January and is due on or before the 28th day of each month. Payment can be made at the Council Offices, Kirkwall or at the Warehouse Buildings, 2-12 Victoria Street, Stromness. The following methods are available:
Direct Debit
Payments can be deducted from your bank account on the 1st, 8th, 18th or 28th day of each month. You should complete a mandate electronically by selecting ‘Electronic Mandate’ in the relates sites section of this page.
Debit or Credit Card

Cash or Cheque
Cheques should be crossed and made payable to Orkney Islands Council. If you send a cheque by post please write your name and address on the back of the cheque along with your reference number quoted on the front of your Council Tax bill.
Deduction From Council Wages
This method is only available to employees of the Council.

Payments can be made by debit or credit card. The service is free and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
