Annual Assurance Statement – Housing Services
The Council is required to produce an Annual Assurance Statement covering housing services’ performance and submit it to the Scottish Housing Regulator by October each year. This information must also be made available to tenants and service users on the Council’s website.
The Housing Annual Assurance Statement Certificate for Submission 2021 is available from the 'Related Downloads' section of this page.

- Housing Services is subject to various inspections.
- An Annual Return against the Scottish Social Housing Charter must be completed for the Scottish Housing Regulator each May.
- An Annual Report must be published for our tenants and this is available from the 'Related Links' section of this page .
- A customer satisfaction survey must be undertaken at least every three years and this is available from the 'Related Downloads' section of this page.
- Housing Services operates various internal processes intended to scrutinise performance.
We are required to evidence that our Education, Leisure and Housing Committee is assured that our performance processes are appropriate. Our committee report is available from the 'Related Downloads' section of this page.
Tenant Involvement in the Annual Assurance Statement
It is important for us to involve our tenants in our performance processes.
Tenant members of our residents’ panel along with members of Grieveship Residents’ Association are invited to a meeting annually around September to discuss our Annual Assurance Statement.
A range of information is available from our website.
As always we are keen to involve our tenants.
Scottish Housing Regulator
The Scottish Housing Regulator is responsible for regulating all social landlords in Scotland. The Scottish Housing Regulator has produced engagement plans for all Scottish social landlords. The engagement plan for Orkney Islands Council is available from the 'Related Sites' section of this page.
We are required to make any report by the Scottish Housing Regulator on our performance easily available to tenants including online. This will be made available online when this is available.
Right to Redress
In the event that you are unhappy with any aspect of our service, we will try and assist.
The Scottish Housing Regulator produces a leaflet which explains what a significant performance failure is and how to report one to them, should the need arise. A significant performance failure is not an individual tenant complaint about services. If you have a complaint, for example if you are unhappy about how we have carried out repairs to your own home, then you should raise this directly with us through our complaints procedure as shown above. This is available from the 'Related Sites Section of this page.
