Who would have to pay the levy?

The legislation applies the application of a levy to visitors staying overnight in hotels, hostels, guest houses, bed and breakfasts, self-catering accommodation, camping sites and caravan parks.

Current legislation does not allow cruise ships or motorhomes to be charged a visitor levy.

Would anyone be exempt from paying a visitor levy?

The legislation sets out a compulsory exemption from the visitor levy for those who are in receipt of specific disability benefits, payments, or allowances. Local authorities can determine what, if any, additional exemptions will be included in their local visitor levy scheme.
