The Pupil Support Team
Orkney Islands Council aims to promote a flexible approach to practice and provision, which will enable children to achieve their potential. For most children this will be in mainstream classes but for some, a more specialised curriculum will be more appropriate in addressing their needs.
The Pupil Support Team is made up of a range of services to support children, young people and their families. Within the team, members have specific areas of work for which they are responsible, including:
- Hearing impairments.
- Visual impairments.
- Positive behaviour management.
- Autistic spectrum disorders.
- Speech and language difficulties.
- Outreach tutoring.
All members of the Pupil Support Team are involved in ensuring that the local authority carries out its statutory duties with respect to children and young people with additional support needs. To achieve this, the team also works closely with other services, including:
- Home Link.
- Sleep Scotland.
- Speech and Language Therapy.
- Physiotherapy.
- Occupational Therapy.
Requests for Involvement
Informal enquiries are welcome from parents/carers and young people, or with parental permission from anyone professionally involved with the child or young person.
