Partnership with Parents and Young People
The key partnership for schools in assessing and meeting the additional support needs of a child or young person will be with the child's parents and the young person.
Early dialogue through the process of personal learning planning forms the basis of good communication, trust and mutual respect.
The expectation is that all staff in schools are involved in taking active steps to encourage parents to engage with the school on a range of issues including the arrangements for learning.
Further information is contained in the Parental Involvement Act.
The Act introduces new rights for parents and young people. These are detailed in the Code of Practice.
