New Orkney Employability Hub opens its doors
The Hub – for Learning, Skills and Work officially opened its doors in Kirkwall’s Albert Street on Tuesday 28 February 2023.
Cutting the ribbon was Jack Woods, one of the supported user group members who has been instrumental to the formation of the new partnership space, which will provide a key base to support people on their employment journey.

Orkney Athletic and Running Club are running out of options in their search for new coaches
The Orkney Athletic and Running Club is in need of more volunteer coaches to keep progress on track.
They have tried appealing for help via their own social media, through the local radio and even contacted some former competitors to see if anyone can help - but without success so far.

Dounby school sculpture on show at Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh
Seeing the world through the eyes of the children at Dounby Primary School has led to the creation of a unique and insightful art sculpture which will go on show at the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh soon.
As part of the Creative Learning Network and the National Galleries of Scotland project Your Art World, children and young people from 3-18 have been challenged to make and share their art.

Orkney residents encouraged to apply for £400 alternative energy payment
Folk in Orkney who did not receive the automatic energy support payments from the UK Government are being encouraged to see if they qualify for a £400 alternative.
The Energy Bills Support Scheme Alternative Funding (EBSS AF) is providing support of £400 for energy bills for households across the UK who are not linked with a domestic electricity supplier.

North Ronaldsay’s dark skies success will shine a light on the island during Science Festival weekend
The spotlight is set to shine on North Ronaldsay during March with an exciting weekend of free activities that celebrate and explore the natural environment and dark skies of the island, as part of the 2023 Science Festival.

Just under 2,000 households in Orkney have received the £200 cost of living payment now. Please do not worry if you are still to receive yours – they are coming soon.
There’s another 175 or so payments to be made next week – they are due to appear in your bank accounts around Wednesday or Thursday (8 or 9 March).
