Staff at the Glaitness Centre in Kirkwall have gone all out to bring Christmas cheer to residents and visitors during the festive season.

Orkney Islands Council has today (20 December) launched its annual online survey seeking input from the community on where they want Council spending prioritised.

Following the launch of the VIP Awards in September a panel of staff members from across our services and at all different levels have met and selected two finalists in each category.  The finalists will go on to take part in the annual award celebration with the chance to receive vouchers and a certificate.

Eday residents are advised waste collections over the festive period will now take place on Thursday 28 December 2023, and
Thursday 4 January 2024.

The Council's waste and recycling centres at Garson and Hatston will reopen at midday on Wednesday 20 December, following their temporary closure earlier this week due to a breakdown.

With high winds forecast over the next few days, there is a possibility of disruption to bin collections and at waste and recycling centres.

Scottish Water is advising residents in Stronsay that they can return to using their tap water as normal.
