The sounds of Orkney sport will echo in music around Orkney’s iconic St Magnus Cathedral next summer, alongside voices from island groups involved in the 2025 Island Games, as part of a project celebrating the culture of Orkney and its fellow island communities

Orkney Islands Council is calling for nominations from the community for its employee award scheme – the VIP Awards.

It’s the second year of the awards, which are aimed at recognising service which reflects OIC’s values - People, Unity, Trust, Ownership and Creativity – with VIP standing for ‘Values In Practice’.

The distinct heritage of Orkney’s many communities is set to benefit from the expertise of the Council’s Museums team, thanks to almost £100,000 of support from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. 

Following a successful 12-week consultation on the draft Orkney Islands Regional Marine Plan, the Council’s Marine Planning Team will now be carefully considering the raft of comments received and updating the draft plan.
