Local people are being urged to sign up for a mygovscot account for a quicker and easier way to report issues and request services from Orkney Islands Council, through the MyOrkney section of the Council website.

A survey is being launched today to gather local views on potential changes to the services provided by Orkney Islands Council - as the local authority begins to plan for its budget setting process in February.  

Historic Environment Scotland (HES) has awarded £21,000 to Wessex Archaeology and Dendrochronicle to carry out further research of the Sanday Wreck, an intact section of shipwreck timbers uncovered on Sands o’Erraby earlier this year. The funding will support in-depth analysis of the wreck including dating, reporting and archiving to help shed light on this remarkable discovery.

Long held aspirations by the Stromness Community Development Trust to take over the Stromness Community Centre on behalf of the town’s residents have leapt ahead in recent weeks – thanks to a package of support by Orkney Islands Council and the Scottish Land Fund. 

Local folk who’ve interacted with the Council’s Development Management - or planning - team in the last year are being encouraged to feed their views about their experience into a national survey.
