Your vote matters... don’t lose it

Orkney’s electors are being asked to complete their annual Electoral Registration Household Enquiry Form.

Forms have been delivered to homes across the county over the past few days – and the local Registration Office is encouraging everyone to make sure that the details on their form are correct.

Even if there are no changes to the household, this needs to be confirmed.

Electoral Registration Officer for Orkney and Shetland Dennis Stevenson said: “Elections have been very much in the news over recent months and the General Election in June demonstrated how important it is to have an up to date Register of Electors available at all times.

“Although you may know that your details are on the register, as you have recently voted, we would ask you to respond and provide the information requested on the form as soon as possible.

“All responses can now be made online and we would encourage householders, where possible, to use this method rather than returning the form in the post. However, if you prefer, you can return the paper copy to us instead.”

Both stages of the electoral registration process can now be completed online using the details on the household form.

The householder can give details of all the residents in the property.

Any new electors in a property can also register individually to give the additional information that the process now requires. This is also the most cost effective and efficient way to provide the information.

It is important that a response is received for every property in Orkney, and owners of properties that are vacant or have no permanent residents must also confirm this.
