World Book Day celebrations at Papdale

Date: 9 March 2021

Time: 10:06

World Book Day at Papdale Primary School was made all the more special for Head Teacher Wendy Bowen who was able to share a story with pupils from a book written by her mother.

Kenny’s Bairns was penned by Marigold Stewart and Celebrating World Book Day at Papdale Primary School.is all about her childhood growing up in Caithness. Her daughter, Wendy Bowen, Head Teacher at Papdale, was able to use this personal link during World Book Day, telling the story of “Jacko the monkey”.

“It was lovely having that personal link to one of the stories I read to the children and it shows that anyone can achieve their dreams if writing a book happens to be one of them. The P1-P3 children who were in last week made a fantastic effort in dressing up – as did the staff - and we had an assembly where we talked about the books or films they were characters from. It was a good chance for them to retell the stories.

“The staff dressed up as characters from Little Red Riding Hood and the bairns spent the day telling ‘granny’ and ‘Red Riding Hood’ that the wolf was behind them. Great fun and learning all the while!”World Book Day - primary pupils dressed up.
