A roundup of weather-related disruptions for Wednesday 31 January and Thursday 1 February 2024.

Waste collection disruptions:

Area 8: (South Ronaldsay and Burray) - Due to the Churchill Barriers closing today, Wednesday 31 January, the following roads have not been collected:

  • St Margarets Hope Village
  • Hoxa
  • Ontaft
  • The A961 from the St Margarets Hope village to the 4th barrier.

Weather and resource permitting, crews will attempt to recollect tomorrow Thursday 1 February. Households affected are advised to put bins out by 8am, along with side waste if their last fortnightly collection was cancelled due to snow.

Hoy and Longhope - Due to vehicles under repair, we are unable to carry out the weekly collection in Hoy and Longhope tomorrow (Thursday 1 February)

Public bus updates:

X10 service - Stagecoach advises due to the change in the Northlink ferry arrival at Hatston pier tonight (Wednesday 31 January), the X10 will operate at the earlier time of 22:00 from the Kirkwall hotel. 

Power outages:

SSEN have advised of an unplanned power outage in Stromness affecting 561 customers (31 January). SSEN are aiming to have power restored by 1730.

SSEN have also advised of an unplanned power outage on Flotta, affecting 76 customers (31 January). SSEN are aiming to have power restored by 1830.
