The Council is undergoing a major transformation thanks to significant investment in staffing through Our People – Our Plan and you could be part of our journey. We have three roles available within our Human Resources and Organisational Development service.

Here’s Amanda’s Story

After completing her degree in 2006 Amanda knew she wanted a career in Human Resources.

She is what could be affectionately termed one of Orkney Islands Council’s “home-grown” talents.

Since joining the team in 2006, Amanda has gained valuable experience through a broad range of roles within the Council’s HR team, and she is currently senior HR Adviser.

“Our people are at the heart of enabling change, ensuring our partners and communities thrive and our organisation succeeds, and I am really proud to be part of that. We do our best to support the organisation’s biggest asset – our people.”

“We all recognise that change can come with challenges, but I’m a firm believer that challenge often brings out the best in people. Working in HR can be hard but also immensely rewarding and you never stop learning.

“I have never stopped relishing the chance to make people’s working lives better, even in a small way. Given the investment in our people across the Council, this is such an exciting time to be joining our team.”
