Vandals target Dingieshowe toilets

The Council is carrying out urgent repair works at Dingieshowe public toilets in Deerness after part of the facility was vandalised at the weekend.
The wash hand basin within the ladies toilet was smashed – as can be seen here in the photos – sometime overnight on Friday into the early hours of Saturday morning.
The toilet facility remains open – however will be closed for a short spell while the replacement work and cleaning takes place this week as a matter of urgency.
A number of bottles had also been smashed and litter left around the outside of the building.
Kirkwall Police have been notified and are investigating.
OIC Development and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Councillor Graham Sinclair said: “Public toilet facilities continue to be targeted in these acts of mindless vandalism, which is particularly frustrating as we enter the warmer months and many more people will wish to enjoy the scenic beauty that areas such as Dingieshowe beach offers.
“I would ask that anyone with information who may have seen or heard anything in the area at that time to contact Kirkwall Police – it’s the only way we can stamp out this kind of senseless behaviour.”
