Are you interested in the funding of Council services, how Council Tax is calculated, the harbour accounts or employee statistics?

A raft of key facts and figures relating to Orkney Islands Council have been updated and can be viewed on the website under one document here www.orkney.gov.uk/Finances

It means a huge amount of information can be accessed at the touch of a button.

The OIC’s Interim Executive Director of Finance, Regulatory, Marine and Transportation Services, Gareth Waterson, said: “We hope that having such an array of key facts and figures within one document will make it even easier for folk to find what they are looking for.

“There’s a range of subject matter contained within the work – Orkney Islands Council Key Facts and Figures 2021-2022 – from the revenue expenditure ie the day-to-day cost of providing services to the aggregate external finance, which is the total grant provided by central government to local authorities, to the business rates income and ring-fenced grants.

"There’s further details in there on the calculations surrounding the Council Tax, the reserves held by the Council and how decisions are made on spending, the Housing Revenue Account, weekly rent levels and the budgeted Harbour Accounts expenditure and income for 2021/22.

“Further in and you will find information on the Council’s committee framework and the College Management Council, statistical information relating to the electorate, the population, births, marriages, civil partnerships and deaths. This is just a snapshot, and I would encourage anyone with an interest to have a look.”
