Update on road resurfacing works and closures – including bus services impacted
Date: 4 November 2021
Orkney Islands Council is reminding motorists they will be carrying out road patching and resurfacing works across Orkney over coming months.
The next couple of weeks will see works in Hoy and Mainland Orkney, as follows:
- Current works on the B9047 in Hoy at Pegal Burn Bridge are nearing completion. Crews will move over to the Pier Road and Cantick Road in South Walls next week, from Monday 8 November to 15 November (weather permitting). Pier Road will be closed for the full length - pedestrian access to pier and shop will be maintained but parking will be very limited.
- Work is ongoing on Moss Road in Holm - due to adverse weather, the revised expected completion date for this work is Friday 5 November. The road is closed from Memorial at junction with the B9052 to a section west of Netherton Farm.
- The revised start date for works on Biggings Road (St Andrews) is Monday 8 November (to around 12 November). The road will be closed from Stembister Road to the main road (A960) to Deerness.
- Revised start date for Berstane Lodge Road (St Ola) is Monday 15 November (lasting until 19 November). The closure affects the entire road.
- Works on Junction Road and NewScapa Road and Junction Road inKirkwall have also been delayed due to recent bad weather – these have been rescheduled for 16 November and 22 November respectively, and are expected to take around one week each (weather permitting). Details are as follows:
- Junction Road will be closed between Castle Street (Travel Centre) and Tankerness Lane (Restart). Public Bus services affected are X1,2,3,6,7,8S and 9. Buses will Turn left out of Travel Centre, left at Kiln Corner Roundabout, left at the Ayre Roundabout onto Great Western Road, rejoining routes on Pickaquoy Road (and vice versa on journeys to the Travel Centre)
- New Scapa Road will close from the junction at Hornersquoy and Garden House/new hospital. Public Bus services affected are X1,2,3,4,6,7,8S and 9. All services will use Foreland Road and Old Scapa Road. Service 9 will be unable to serve Pipersquoy Road, Kirklands Road and Quoybanks Cres and will instead use Holm Branch Road, re-joining the route on Holm Road.
The Council would like to thank the Orkney public in advance for their patience and reminds motorists to observe the speed limits and traffic management in place, which are there to keep everyone safe.
