Two Headteachers Sought for Orkney Schools

Date: 1 June 2018

Time: 10:05

Orkney Islands Council is looking to recruit Head Teachers for two distinct local schools.

The posts have become available at Orkney's largest primary school, Papdale Primary, and the largest school in the North Isles, Westray Junior High School.

Papdale Primary School's current school roll is 455 with a staff team of over 50, teaching classes from P1 through to P7.

Westray Junior High School on the other hand has a roll of 76, a staff team of 20 and caters from pupils from 3 to 16 years old.

Applicants must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland and relocation expenses are available for both posts.

James Wylie is the Council's Head of Education (Curriculum and Community Learning). He said: "These vacancies offer exciting opportunities to build on the strong and effective leadership of the outgoing Head Teachers in schools with distinct, strong and engaging communities. Each of these posts offer a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate looking to either relocate to Orkney or take a step up within our education team.

"Orkney's strong cultural heritage, leisure opportunities and community spirit makes it an incredible place to live, work and educate.

"We're keen to hear from people who can lead and inspire teams and focus on quality improvement to meet the needs of the schools, their pupils, the education service and wider community.”

Prospective candidates are invited to discuss the posts by contacting James Wylie by email (both posts), Carol McManus by email carol.mcmanus@orkney.gov.uk (Papdale post) or Graham Bevan by email (Westray post), or contact all by phone on 01856873535.

Full information is available on the myjobscotland website. The closing dates are 3 June for Westray and 10 June for Papdale.
