Training offer to better support young people in Orkney
Date: 29 February 2024
Free Child Impact Assessment training for people who support children and young people in Orkney affected by a family member caught up in the justice system is being launched in the county next month (March).
The training will focus on the impact on families from arrest, imprisonment through to release and aims to help professionals develop their understanding of factors to consider when supporting families through the experience.
The Orkney Community Justice Partnership (OCJP), in conjunction with Families Outside, a charity which works on behalf of families in Scotland affected by imprisonment, will host two training sessions on Tuesday 19 March at the St Magnus Centre, Kirkwall.
Matt Webb, Planning, Performance & Information Officer - Community Justice at Orkney Islands Council said: “We will be hosting independent morning and afternoon sessions for up to 30 people. We would hope to see professionals from school guidance staff to nursery early years’ staff, teachers to those involved with social work, the police, NHS Orkney, health visitors and those who work at various agencies such as Women’s Aid, the Orkney Rape and Sexual Assault Service, Relationship Scotland to name a few.
“We would, however, encourage anyone who feels they may benefit from the training to get in touch.”
