Toy Appeal launched to bring joy to Orkney bairns this Christmas

A Council employee is making it her mission to spread a little bit of Christmas joy for bairns in Orkney this festive season.
Alongside the Peedie Kirk and friends, Wendy Bowen, the Council’s Quality Improvement Officer (Achievement and Attainment), is launching a Christmas Toy Appeal. Part of Wendy’s remit sees her strive to ensure that children do not miss out on achieving and attainting at school as a result of financial strains within the home.
She said: “The Peedie Kirk and friends are keen to help families keep the cost of Christmas down and to help unwanted toys find new homes.
“We are looking for preloved good quality toys, games and books to be able to hold a toy collection evening/morning.
“Please take your items to the Peedie Kirk hall, Palace Road, Kirkwall on Saturday 26 October and Saturday 2 November between 10am -12noon. It would be great if any toys requiring batteries could have a fresh set put in, or we would welcome any donations, particularly of AAs and AAAs.”
The toys, games and books will be available for parents/carers to choose for free on Friday 8 November from 7pm-9pm and Saturday 9 November from 10am-12noon – again from the Peedie Kirk hall. Donations of toys will also be accepted on these days.
Wendy said: “Please just pop along and help yourself to whatever you may need to ensure your child/children have a special day – and it’s recycling at its best!”
