Temporary closure of Cursiter Recycling Centre
Date: 28 April 2022
The Recycling Centre at Cursiter Quarry in Finstown will be closed at 1pm today (Thursday 28 April) to allow for a clean-up operation after various types of inappropriate waste was dumped there.
A number of residual waste items have been placed into the recycling skips with additional furniture, building materials and other waste scattered on the site. This will require replacement of skips and staff to be diverted from other service areas in order to clear the site ready for reopening. It is anticipated the site will not re-open until Tuesday 3 May.
We would like to apologise for this inconvenience noting the facility only accepts recyclable materials, thanking those who make proper use of the site. We would request again that the public do not deposit furniture or other inappropriate materials on this site to ensure it can continue to operate without partial or potentially permanent closures.
Materials accepted at Cursiter Recycling Centre are: cans (aluminium and steel), glass, paper, garden waste, household batteries, scrap metal, vehicle batteries, waste electrical and electronic equipment, cardboard, fluorescent tubes (including energy bulbs) and plastic bottles.
