Taking the law into his own hands – Veer encourages others to join Orkney Islands Council’s Legal Services team!

Local authorities are at the heart of communities, and solicitors play a crucial role in ensuring councils operate effectively and legally. 

Veer Bansal joined Orkney Islands Council (OIC) as a solicitor two years ago and says he has never looked back! 

“It was during the Christmas period in 2022, I came across a job posting by the Council for a solicitor on the Scottish Legal News Website. I was living in Kirkcaldy in Fife at the time, but I knew Orkney through friends at university, so after discussing the opportunity with family, I decided to apply for the role. 

“From day one, Orkney has felt like a home to me!  I have met so many wonderful folks at the Council and in the community who have provided me with incredible support and mentorship. 

“I love working here, the collegiate environment provides me with daily opportunities to take on new legal tasks and contribute in my small way to the maintenance of public services in Orkney. I honestly feel so fortunate to be part of Orkney community, as this truly is one of the best places to live and work in the UK.” 

We have an exciting opportunity for someone else to take that leap of faith and join Veer and the Legal Services team as a solicitor with a special interest in property and commercial law. 

The permanent post, which attracts a salary of up to £51,529, promises to be varied and the lifestyle in Orkney is second to none, with the islands regularly voted the best place to live in Scotland.
