Surface dressing update for 7 and 8 June

Date: 6 June 2018

Time: 02:44

Tomorrow (7 June) the Council will be carrying out surface dressing in the Bay of Skaill/Skara Brae area, on the B9056 between the B9057 (the Loch of Skaill) and Quoyloo Road.

This work is expected to be taking place the following day (Friday 8 June) as well.

A signed diversion will be in place via Quoyloo Road, onto the A967, and then onto the B9055 (the ‘Queen of Aithe road’).

The roadworks will affect public bus service 8S – Kirkwall – Stromness – Skara Brae. The 16:45 (Monday Thursday and Saturday) from Kirkwall will be unaffected. Outwith these times, the bus will not serve Skara Brae, Marwick, Quoyloo and Birsay Hostel.

A general reminder that roads will be closed in both directions while surface dressing is being carried out, with closures in place from as early as 06:00 and as late as 18:00.

School transport buses will be escorted through the work sites.

Public buses will be permitted through work sites during peak hours only (before 09.30 and after 16:00).

Roads will be closed to all other traffic, with the exception of emergency vehicles.
