Orkney College UHI students and pupils from KGS will be serving up a tasty example of giving this Christmas.

NC Administration students and Foundation Apprenticeship Hospitality pupils are hosting an event to raise awareness of the Foodbank in Orkney whilst also giving folk the chance to sample a Christmas cracker of a tasting menu – with the focus on good food and good value.

The students will also be sharing ideas on how to reduce food waste.

The Festive Foodbank evening will be held on Wednesday, 30 November 2022, at Orkney College UHI from 5.30pm until 8pm.

Susan Mackay, OC UHI Lecturer in Business Studies and Inclusive Practice, said: “The Festive Foodbank event invites members of the public to come along for an evening of festive fun to raise awareness for the Foodbank with ideas for how to reduce your own food waste for Christmas.

“The Festive Foodbank evening will include a cracking Christmas tasting menu created by the Hospitality students, with a focus on good food and good value. The buffet style tasting will demonstrate how people can enjoy a delicious and healthy meal on a shoestring budget with all recipes for under £5. They will also supply a recipe card for each of the dishes.

“There will be a ‘donation station’ to drop off items for the Foodbank Christmas hampers and an opportunity to donate to the charity. Local businesses are also invited to set up a stall on site, sponsor the event or donate to a raffle.”

Any businesses that would like to be part of the event by either having a stall or donating a raffle, please contact Susan Mackay susanh.mackay@uhi.ac.uk

The event will run in conjunction with Orkney College UHI’s open evening for parents and carers of senior phase pupils attending at the College. Parents and carers will be shown where their children are studying, receive further information about courses offered and will be able to speak to staff one-to-one about their child’s progress.
