Stromness street repairs update
Date: 22 October 2021
Flagstone repairs are due to be carried out in Stromness over the coming months, starting on Monday 25 October through to mid-March 2022, with a suspension during the Christmas period.
These works, which are being carried out by BDS Surfacing Ltd on behalf of the Council, will cover sections of John Street, Victoria Street, Graham Place, Dundas Street, Alfred Street, South End and Ness Road. This will lead to sections of the street being closed at times - these will be signposted and kept to an absolute minimum.
Where possible, repaired areas will be covered temporarily to allow them to fully cure, and it will be necessary for the areas to remain closed while this takes place. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout.
The contractor’s working hours will generally be 8am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday working.
On Monday 25 October the works will get underway on John Street, covering the section from 40 John Street, where stone slabs commence to the access into the Stromness Surgery. This means access to the Surgery will be via Victoria Street. These works are expected to take around one week.
Works will then move onto the section from Stromness Surgery to above E. Flett’s Butcher shop, meaning access to the Butchers, will be via Victoria Street and to Stromness Surgery will be via John Street. This section is expected to take around one week.
The final section of the works on John Street will be from E. Flett’s Butcher to the Royal British Legion, so access to the Butchers and Stromness Surgery will be via John Street. Again, this is expected to take around one week.
The Council would like to apologise for the inconvenience these works may cause and thank the pubic for their ongoing patience.
