Stromness flagstone repairs update - 18 March
Date: 18 March 2022
Flagstone repairs in the centre of Stromness are continuing, with ongoing road closures in place on Alfred Street.
With the section of Alfred Street from Hellihole to Lilburn’s Pier now completed, slab repair works will be continuing next week (week starting 21 March) along Alfred Street, from Lilburn Pier towards Mayburn Court, and are expected to be completed mid-week.
Works will then move into South End, meaning that access to Mayburn Court will be from the Hellihole Road / Dundas Street junction end.
The road will continue to be closed, from Hellihole Road / Dundas Street junction to Ness Road, with no through vehicular access.
This section of the works are expected to take 2-3 weeks to complete, weather dependent.
Where required, repaired areas will be covered temporarily to allow them to fully cure, and it will be necessary for the areas to remain closed while this takes place.
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout.
The work is being carried out by being carried out by BDS Surfacing Ltd on behalf of the Council. The contractor’s working hours will generally be 8am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday working.
The Council would like to apologise for the inconvenience these works may cause and thank the public for their ongoing patience.
