Stromness Academy: We are Writers!

The new S2 pupils at Stromness Academy have been busy during lockdown and are set to publish a book before the end of term.

The book - Stromness Academy: We Are Writers! - is a collection of the creative writing pupils have done during their first year English course.

Stromness Academy ran a similar project in 2018, however the coronavirus pandemic has meant they had to learn and use new skills and adapt to learning remotely through Microsoft Teams.

The English teacher leading this project, Emma Grieve said: “Pupils have produced poetry, personal writing and imaginative pieces for this book. Stromness Academy: We Are Writers! gives an insight into the experiences of our young people both before and during lockdown.  Lots of our creative tasks have been about processing the changes in the world around us.”

Using Scholastic’s We Are Writers! website to create the book, provides a great opportunity for pupils to celebrate their work, using the skills taught in the English classroom in a real-world context.

Emma added: “We think it will provide a fascinating record of the times in years to come.”

Pupils can continue to add their work to the We Are Writers! website until 19 June.  

Parents will be given the opportunity to order their copies of the book from 15 to 19 June 2020, priced at £8 each.
