Stromness Academy appeal for “Pop-Up School Shop” donations
Date: 26 June 2024
Stromness Academy is on the hunt for donations for a free “Pop-Up School Shop” for students and their families.
Depute Head Mrs Rachael Wild said they are appealing for secondary age suitable clothes, sportswear, water bottles, school bags, trainers, shoes, coats, pencil cases and stationery.
Mrs Wild added: “We are striving to reduce the cost of the school day at Stromness Academy, and we thought a pop-up event would be helpful to students and their families during the cost-of-living crisis.”
Businesses can also help with donations to the two pop-up events – which will run at the school on Tuesday 6 August from 9am-3pm and again at the Stromness drop-in within the Community Centre on Friday 23 August from 2pm-4pm.
Mrs Wild continued: “We are very grateful to William Wilsons who have donated 400 pens, and we would appeal for any other local companies who may be willing to donate school-related items to get in touch with myself.”
New or good condition pre-loved items can be dropped off at Stromness Academy between 10 and 2:30 from now and until Wednesday 31 July.
Mrs Wild said: “Please support the event which will potentially save some items from landfill whilst benefiting someone else. It’s great to instil a sense of reusing in our young people – something which they will hopefully take with them into adulthood.
“I would encourage students or parents/carers to pop in by the Academy or Community Centre on the dates mentioned and see if there’s anything that may be useful to them for the next school term.
“Who doesn't love a bargain?! And best of all, all the items donated will be absolutely free – all we ask is that you take what you need.”
