Still time to get involved in a summer of fun activities!
Date: 17 July 2024
Time: 10:00
The Council and Picky’s summer programme of activities is continuing at pace – but there’s still plenty of fun events to get involved in.
The Active Schools team have been out in Sanday entertaining and involving children and young people from P1-P7 in “active days”!
Michael Swanney, Active Schools Co-ordinator, said: “We travelled out to Sanday and had a great time. The kids were fantastic and really got involved in the sessions. We covered lots of fun games including “rob the nest, jockeys and horses, boccia, bean bag bowls, dodge ball, polo, statue tig, to name but a few.
“We are looking forward to the next active days in Stronsay and Westray.”
Next up is Stronsay on Thursday 18 July – pop along to Stronsay Junior High School at 10.30am and register for the day. Remember, it’s completely free!
On Thursday 25 July, it’s the turn of young people in Westray to get active with the team for their day of fun.
Participants are asked to bring a packed lunch, water bottle and plenty of energy! If the weather is good, then sessions will be outside, however the school hall can be used if needed.
The programme is pulled together by the OIC Sport and Leisure Team and staff at the Pickaquoy Centre to offer a huge variety of activities for the holidays. Some are free, others are included with ActiveLife membership and some you can pay for.
Freebies include fencing taster sessions thanks to the Orkney Fencing club, Bikeability Level 1 and the Active Schools days.
A host of activities come under the ActiveLife membership banner such as Picky arena inflatables, water walkerz, stepping stones and floats, pirate aquarium and Generation Pound.
You can still pay for the ActiveLife activities if you don’t have a membership, and others such as the Learn to Swim weeks, bubble football and climbing.
There’s lots more happening so please check out the full programme at www.orkney.gov.uk/Summer
