A special online safety event for older people has taken place at Kirkwall Town Hall and Community Centre.

The session was organised by The Learning Link, part of the Council’s Education, Leisure and Housing service. It was a spin off from the regular senior computer club sessions The Learning Link has been running since 2013.

Expert advice was provided by Lindsay Armstrong, from Police Scotland, and Alison Campbell, from OIC Trading Standards - with presentations highlighting ways to stay safe online and avoid scams and other potential risks.

Eighty-year-old Don Keith, from Kirkwall, was one of around 35 people taking part and is pictured with Lindsay, Alison and Chrissie Mathews and Robin Jamieson-Caley from The Learning Link.

If you’d be interested in taking part in a future session on online safety for senior citizens, contact The Learning Link on 01856879200.

Meanwhile, Age Scotland Orkney in partnership with Police Scotland and the Council will be holding a Door Step Crime Drop-In Session next month. Call in at 46 Victoria Street, Kirkwall, for help and advice anytime between 14:00 and 16:30 on Wednesday 17 April.
