The Chief Executive of Scotland’s national sports agency will be in Orkney this week to find out more about sport in the county.
Stewart Harris from sportscotland will attend the Orkney Sports Awards at Kirkwall Grammar School on Friday night (20 January).
During the day he’ll be spectating at an inter schools netball and football competition between Stromness Academy and Kirkwall Grammar School as well as visiting the Picky Centre and meeting with senior members of staff from the Council’s Education, Leisure and Housing service.
SportScotland works closely with partners across the country to improve the links between schools, clubs and performance as they continue to build a world class sports system.
Garry Burton is the Council’s Sports and Leisure Manager. He said: “We are delighted to welcome Mr Harris to the county. It’s a huge week for sport and leisure in Orkney with the launch of the ActiveLife membership scheme and the Sports Awards.
“We’re looking forward to showing Mr Harris the range and quality of sports facilities that Orkney has to offer, the commitment of local people to sport in the county and also taking the opportunity to discuss with Mr Harris how sportscotland might continue to support Orkney in the future.”
