A member of staff at Orkney Islands Council has been shortlisted in a national awards scheme which recognises the best young talent in the renewables and energy fields.

Eibhlin Lee, from the Council's Strategic Projects Team, has been shortlisted in the 'Achiever' category at the annual Scottish Renewables Young Professionals Green Energy Awards.

The awards celebrate those who will be driving the evolution of Scotland's energy system and recognises those who have achieved beyond all expectations, those who are pioneering new ideas and those who have the drive and ambition to change the renewable industry for the better.

The Achiever category recognises people who have achieved outstanding personal development and growth or promotion within their role.

Eibhlin has been shortlisted for the work she is doing on the Council's wind farm projects which has proved invaluable in assessing options for the Council to take forward.

There’s a definite Orkney flavour to the awards with Eibhlin up against Catrin Sutherland from EMEC in her category, Ryan Doull from Orbital Marine Power who is shortlisted in the ‘Project Development’ award and Craig Stout from Kirkwall who is shortlisted in the Engineer award for his work with Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult.

Over 100 nominations were received for the awards.

Gavin Barr is Orkney Islands Council’s Executive Director of Development and Infrastructure Services. He said: “I congratulate Eibhlin on her shortlisting in these awards. Her thorough attention to detail has proved her be an invaluable and diligent member of our Strategic Projects team and I look forward to her continued involvement in the projects as they progress."

Councillor Graham Sinclair is Chair of the Council’s Development and Infrastructure Committee.  He said: “As well as Eibhlin’s well-deserved shortlisting in these awards, it is pleasing to see so much other homegrown talent recognised.  Judging by the huge range of talent and expertise represented within these awards, Orkney’s future as a centre of excellence in these type of technologies is in great hands.”
